Valdez, surrounded by the Chugach Mountains and located within Prince William Sound - is the premier fishing destination in Alaska. Our waters are open year-round, and home to an abundance of seafood - salmon, lingcod, rockfish, halibut, shrimp and more! Valdez is also home to the oldest fishing derby in Alaska - the Valdez Fish Derby.
Each year visitors witness the return of 10-15 million Pink Salmon - This represents the bulk of the local commercial fishing industry. Pink Salmon are harvested and processed in a variety of different ways (whole, filets, canned and eggs) and shipped around the world for consumption.
The Seafood Festival is designed to celebrate and bring awareness of Pink Salmon and to showcase the incredible seafood found in our waters, as a healthy and sustainable food source.
THE FAMOUS ANNUAL COOK-OFF!
The competition is FREE TO ENTER and open to all - Amateurs, Professionals and Culinary Art Students.
The three (3) Categories of the competition for 2019 are: Breakfast “Alaskan Style”, Chowder and Main Dish.
Included in the competition will be the People’s Choice Award.
Each dish MUST HAVE SEAFOOD as the main ingredient.
THE CITY OF VALDEZ WILL SUPPLY THE SEAFOOD.
Registration will OPEN MAY 10th, 2019
Applications must be submitted by July 1, 2019. Finalist will be announced on July 15, 2019.
You MUST ENTER IN EVERY category to qualify.
Cooking Grills (BBQ's) will be supplied for Competitors use.
There will be 3 sessions of competition per category:
a) Morning session – Breakfast - “Alaskan Style”– Limited to 6 Competitors.
b) Afternoon session – Chowder – Limited to 6 Competitors.
c) Evening session – Main Dish – Limited to 6 Competitors.
*Should the City receive an unusual high amount of registrations, the competitor limit may change*

The highlight of the Festival will be the
Public Seafood Tasting!
Don't miss the seafood tastings that will be open to the public at the end of each category session.
Tasting tickets will be available for purchase and redeemed for the delicious samples created by the Contestants. More information coming soon!
