
National Weather Service – Anchorage Issues a Flood Watch for the City of Valdez
For immediate release: August 28, 2023
Valdez, AK – The National Weather Service – Anchorage has issued another flood watch due to excessive rainfall, beginning Monday, August 28, through Wednesday evening, August 30, for Northeast Prince William Sound, Southeast Prince William Sound, and Western Prince William Sound, which includes the cities of Whittier, Seward, Girdwood, Moose Pass, Valdez, Thompson Pass, and Cordova.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
City personnel are actively monitoring the situation. Please avoid flooded areas, rivers, and stream banks. If you observe flooding, please contact Valdez Dispatch at 907.835.4560.
