For immediate release: 07/14/2022 11:00 a.m.

Valdez, AK – The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is coordinating rescue efforts for a missing aircraft. The RCC is in communication with the Valdez Fire Department and has utilized the city’s search and rescue assets. The City of Valdez will continue to provide support to RCC as well as the Alaska State Troopers throughout this incident. 

 Effective 11 a.m. today – The Federal Aviation Administration issued a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) stating no pilots may operate an aircraft in the areas covered by this notice effective July 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. and ending July 14, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. The reason for the NOTAM is to provide a safe environment for search of an overdue aircraft. This NOTAM affects all aircraft, not expressly authorized for flight by the RCC, including drones.
