The free program recognizes Valdez businesses and organizations that meet certain COVID conscious health and safety criteria. Those certified by the program will receive program signage they may proudly display anywhere in the establishment. The program also provides $500 in grant funding to help with offsetting the cost of COVID mitigation efforts.

  • Drop off your completed application to the City Hall front office, located at 212 Chenega Ave OR
  • Mail your completed application to City of Valdez, Attention Roxanne Murphy, PO BOX 307, Valdez, AK 99686

Step Three: Application Review.

Within seven to ten business days following submission, the Valdez Unified Command Business Task Force will review your application.

Step Four: Certification Award.

Applicants will receive an email (or a phone call, if needed) with a certification determination. Certified businesses will receive COVID Conscious signage for posting within the establishment.

Once certified, the business will become eligible for a $500 grant to help offset the cost of COVID-19 mitigation efforts. Following certification, grant checks should be issued to the business within 16 days.

Step Five: Designation Maintenance.

Compliance checks may be scheduled with the business following certification to maintain the COVID Conscious designation. This will more likely occur if any concerns are raised about the designation. The City of Valdez reserves the right to deny certification or remove designations for non-compliance, with agreement from the Valdez Unified Command Business Task Force.
