Swim lessons are offered all year at the Valdez City Pool. Valdez Parks & Recreation is now using the Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum for all lessons. We offer Preschool, Beginner, and Advanced Beginner lessons at this time. Participants in the Red Cross Learn to Swim program will focus on water safety and basic recreation swimming strokes such as the Front Crawl (Freestyle), Back Crawl (Backstroke), Breaststroke, and Elementary Backstroke.

Ages: 3-5
Preschool swimming lessons are for swimmers 3–5 years old. Participants in this class will be introduced to submerging their face in the water, submerging their full body, jumping into water, front floats, back floats, front crawl arms, front and back glides with kicks, front crawl for 20 ft., elementary backstroke for 20 ft., and safety swimming.
Ages: 5-12
Beginner swimming lessons are for swimmers who have taken and passed the Preschool swimming lessons or a class of equivalent difficulty. Participants in this class will learn to perform the following skills unassisted: submerge face, submerge body, jump into deep water, front and back floats, front and back glides with kicks, front crawl, elementary backstroke, backstroke and intro to breaststroke.
Ages: 5-12
Advanced Beginner swimming lessons are for swimmers who have taken and passed the Beginner swimming lessons or a class of equivalent difficulty. Participants in this class will learn skills to both increase swimming distance and fine-tune strokes. In addition to the skills learned in the previous class, students will learn the unassisted breaststroke, scissor kick and sidestroke arms.
