Mountain TrailThe City of Valdez Parks & Recreation Department provides residents and visitors with approximately 200 acres of unique parks and open spaces, including 18 parks, six athletics fields, nine playgrounds, nine park shelters, three tennis courts, three basketball courts, two campgrounds, and one disc/foot golf course.

Trail System

The Valdez Parks & Recreation Department maintains numerous trails in and around Valdez ranging from short and easy hikes to long and difficult adventures. 

Trails include use areas for:

  • Walking/Running
  • Hiking
  • Cross-country skiing (classic & skate)
  • Four-wheelers
  • Snowmachines
  •  Dog sleds

Park Shelter Rentals

The Valdez Parks Department has several park shelters available for rentals and events. To check available and reserve a park shelter, please contact the Recreation Center front desk at 907-835-4526.

Alcohol Use

For parties who intend to consume alcohol on City property, an approved alcohol waiver is required.   Waiver can be submitted along with park rental reservation form to aduhamel@valdezak.gov.  The Valdez Police Department reviews all waivers prior to event.  Paper forms are available at the Civic Center or Recreation Center front desk.

Cannabis Use

For parties who intend to consume cannabis, an approved cannabis waiver is required. Waiver can be submitted along with park rental reservation form to aduhamel@valdezak.gov. Paper forms are available at the Civic Center or Recreation Center front desk.
