Our department is a combination department made up of 10 career staff and about 40 volunteers. We are an active department that responds to over 400 calls a year. Since we are at the end of the road, we respond to anything.
Our main station is located at 212 Chenega Street. This station is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have three other stations in our outlying area that are well-equipped, yet unmanned.
Our community has ISO (Insurance Service Office) rating of 4 in the entire city limits.
Our department is state registered for both Fire and Advance Life Support EMS (Emergency Medical Services). We have members that are diverse in their capabilities. We respond to all fires with a variety of apparatus and conduct fire prevention. We have three ambulances with the two in town rigs set up for Advanced Life Support and the third out at Station 4 set up for Basic Life Support. Additionally, we have a Swift Water Rescue Team, Back Country Rescue, Search and Rescue, Rope Rescue, and confined space and hazmat unit. Our crews are trained professionals that continue to hone their skills.
Volunteers are always welcome and at any skill level. If you want to learn a skill we hold monthly classes on a variety of topics.
If you want to visit the station come on in and meet the crews. We can give you a tour any day from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. Our staff will be glad to show you around.
