CITY FACILITY CLOSURE NOTICE

UPDATED: 04/06/2020

 In an effort to encourage social distancing and in conjunction with the Valdez Board of Education decision to extend its own closure; the following City facilities will continue to remain closed to the public until further notice at this time.

  • Salmonberry Ski Hill

 This schedule is subject to change as the City will evaluate whether to reopen facilities to the public and resume normal operating hours.

To monitor updates on the status of City of Valdez Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services activities and facilities, please call the PRCS hotline at (907) 835-3200.

All other City facilities and departments will continue to operate as usual unless otherwise directed by the City Manager. The city will provide additional updates as the situation changes. Functions

Parks and RecThe Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department operates and maintains the city’s numerous parks, recreation areas, and recreational service programs for residents and visitors. The department also partners with many community and state organizations to bring new, exciting ideas into its programming to enhance the community’s quality of life.

New!  Valdez Eco-Stewardship Program (V.E.S.P.)  Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is offering eight (8) highly motivated high school students a grand opportunity!  Students can earn a stipend of $2,000 as well as earning three college credits and one high school credit while participating in a variety of outdoor recreation projects. Successful applicants will participate in a six week program from June 8-July 16, 2020.  The Parent Information Meeting on Thursday, March 19th has been cancelled **Students must have application content received by Monday, March 30th at 5:00 PM.    https://www.valdezak.gov/DocumentCenter/View/7615/VESP-Valdez-Eco-Stewardship-Program_2020

Parks & Recreation Master Plan Survey:  A survey has gone out to [all residents of Valdez] as part of our Master Planning process. Your survey submission helps us to understand the needs of our community. This is your opportunity to be heard and to weigh in on what is important to our community. We now have an online link! www.valdezparks.org/open. **Surveys must be submitted by 3.13.2020.   If you have any questions you may call our Administrative Office at (907) 835-2531.

Additional Functions

The Parks and Recreation Commission acts as an advisory board to the City Council. Parks and Recreation Commission meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm in the Valdez City Council Chambers. The public is always welcome.
